A problem in arithmetic
A young girl is in the eighth grade at school. She is a good student and a very intelligent girl. She likes to study arithmetic problems in her book easily.
One day on her way to school she passes a coffee shop. There is a sign in the window which says:
"Donuts - Six for five cents." An idea comes to the girl and she goes into the store.
"How much are the donuts?" she asks the man.
"Six for five cents."
"But I don't want six donuts."
"How many donuts do you want."
"It is not a question of how many donuts I want. It is a problem in arithmetic."
"What do you mean a problem in arithmetic?" asks the man.
"Well, if six donuts are worth five cents, four donuts are worth three cents, three donuts are two cents, two donuts are worth one cent, and one donut is worth nothing. I only want one donut, and if one donut is worth nothing, then it is not necessary for me to pay you."
The girl picks out a nice donut, begins to eat it, and walks happily out of the coffee shop. The man looks at the young girl with such surprise that he can not say a word.
